MINING A BOOST FOR NT BUSINESS

Contracts with mining companies have allowed Darwin-based Winnellie Group to extend their reach not just in the Northern Territory but throughout Australia.

The business, which employs 20 staff, contracts to many resources companies, including South32, Rio Tinto, Newmont, Glencore, BHP and Nyrstar.

General manager Max Nicholson says: “The mining industry is extremely important to our company’s success as it provides stable, long-term opportunities, which have allowed us to expand our reach not just within the NT but Australia wide.”

Winnellie Group is a family-owned business, established by Max’s father, Richard Nicholson, in 1983, making this year 40 years in business. The company at first specialised in supplying hydraulic components to the transport, commercial fishing and earth moving industries.

But it now a supply and service provider for hydraulic, pneumatic and gas applications for a wide range of industries and has a strong reputation among resources operations.

Winnellie Group now has a presence in Darwin, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.
