RIDING HIGH
As the incoming CEO, I have been visiting members to gain an understanding of what they are seeing on the ground and what they expect to see in the market in 2025.

Some of our members in the Top End have provided anecdotal evidence that suggests the real estate industry could be in for a ride in 2025 with investor activity high in the residential sector.
Demand is high and more stock is being sought to satisfy the interest of investors who are attracted to the positive rental yields.
Many investors are upgrading their properties, which is also driving high demand for trades. Our members are working with investors to understand the type of properties available, providing reports that outline any maintenance or upgrades required, and thus driving a healthy negotiation process between buyer and seller.
Craig Inkster from McGees Property Darwin shared his observations on the commercial property market, which he advises remains resilient, supported by confidence in the underlying economy, and bolstered further by a recent interest rate reduction.
Looking ahead, the outlook remains positive, underpinned by increasing certainty around major projects in the Defence and Resources sectors. These developments are expected to drive sustained demand and further strengthen the market over the medium term.
In Alice Springs, Lindsay Carey of Nutrien Harcourts reports that the market has been steady so far in 2025 and the recent interest rate drop has been welcomed. The residential rental market is still very strong with high volumes of enquiry. Commercial property is in high demand with a shortage of commercial land/sheds available. Overall, there is more positivity in town in 2025.
As the year progresses, I will seek to provide updates on the activity in all regions of the NT.
The REIA National Awards for Excellence will be held in Adelaide in May and our REINT 2024 Award winners will compete in their category on the national stage.
This is wonderful recognition of their exceptional service, expertise and dedication to their clients and the industry.
