Closing the Gap Through Training
The Northern Territory has a robust and capable First Nations training sector that enables career progression, improved life outcomes for Aboriginal Territorians and regional economic development opportunities for their communities.
There are a number of First Nation vocational education and training providers in the Northern Territory that provide nationally recognised training and assessment.
If you are looking to upskill, reskill or start an apprenticeship or traineeship in 2024 there is a wide range of courses on offer from each of our First Nations providers.

TITEB facilitates learning and skills development on the Tiwi Islands. We are empowering Tiwi people through initiatives like “Shadow Trainers” and “Success Agents.” These Tiwi staff members play pivotal roles in the RTO, providing support, organising training locations, and conducting various training activities. Our training courses span from First Aid to Certificate II in Sport and Recreation, Community Services, and Hospitality. We aim to enhance evaluations and training in LLND (Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital). The 2023 Tiwi Graduation was the first celebration of achievements in Tiwi since 2019. 662 students completed training in the last 4 years, including in partnership with CDU and Batchelor.
We are proud of these accomplishments, TITEB anticipates more milestones in the journey ahead, creating Tiwi Training industry practitioners along the way.

Nungalinya College Indigenous Corporation
Nungalinya College’s original number was RTO 01, making it the first education provider of its kind in the Northern Territory! In 2023, the College turned 50 – and a ‘Jubilee’ celebration reflected on the history of the Anglican, Uniting and Catholic churches combining to provide community development and Christian ministry training for remote Indigenous leaders. Nowadays, there are courses in English literacy and numeracy, translation, art, family wellbeing, children’s services, theology and chaplaincy. Over 300 remote Indigenous leaders attend courses each year and we continue to champion a ‘Bothways’ philosophy where cultures and languages mix and contribute, as we all learn and grow together.
