Highly regarded auto mechanic Mathew Weir and his partner Mandy Konieczny are unashamedly in pursuit of excellence.
Their business, Weiry’s Diesel & Mechanical Services, started in a small shed in Humpty Doo two years ago and they have worked hard to build a solid clientele base by providing exceptional service.
“Working independently, I chased a few select customers at first, ensuring the work I did was reliable and that they were happy with my work and the final result,” says Mat. “It was a humble beginning.”
Weirys Diesel & Mechanical Services has built its name and growing reputation by providing honest and reliable repairs at a reasonable price.
It has many satisfied repeat customers.
“We try to achieve the highest level. If it’s not right, we don’t sign off on a job. That hard work and attention to detail has paid off – the workshop is always full.”
Mat, who proudly calls himself a “born-and-bred Territorian”, has an unusual, hard-working lifestyle working full-time at Weiry’s Diesel & Mechanical Services and fulfilling a fly-in fly-out role with a remote Northern Territory mine.
The business now employs four mechanics, three of them fully qualified tradesmen – Mat, Matthew McLinden and Elliott Williams, who is being helped to upskill and complete his diesel fitter’s apprenticeship.
Weirys’ has just welcomed its newest member, Tom O’Callaghan, who is completing his automotive apprenticeship.
The firm recognises how the industry is evolving.
“Our knowledge base is required to continually grow,” says Mat. “The company benefits significantly from having such a strong team, all with advanced experience in their fields and an ability to build off each other’s knowledge.
Weiry’s offers a full range of auto services.
“We fix everything here – cars, trucks, trailers, backhoes, excavators. And we do registrations, inspections; all maintenance and repairs.”
The company also looks after fleet vehicles for larger companies.
Like all ambitious business owners, Mat and Mandy are keen to grow in a well-managed sustainable way, including branching out into labour hire in the mining industry.
Mat understands the needs of the industry – he has worked in the mining, oil and gas sectors, on the tools, for more than 15 years.
Mat and Mandy are proud of running a family firm.
Mandy is always there, making sure Weiry’s operates safely and efficiently.
“She’s the best,” says Mat, whose mates inevitably call him Weiry, thus the name of the business. “She’s the rock. Mandy saves me a lot of stress.”
