BEETALOO BOOST
This year’s NT Resources Week, the premier event for the oil, gas and mining industries, is shaping up to be the biggest ever.
A record number of advance registrations have been received by boutique event organiser information.
The huge interest is generated mainly by Beetaloo, which is on the cusp of first gas production.
There’s also great interest in the potential for the NT to become a major player in the renewable energy and digital infrastructure space.
And the Middle East war has created worldwide energy insecurity.
NT Resources Week will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre from September 3-4.
It is three conferences in one – South East Asia Australia Offshore & Onshore Conference, Mining the Territory, and Clean Energy & Infrastructure .
NT Resources Week has attracted a suite of world-class speakers, including the four executives playing key roles in shaping the Territory’s economic future:
• Todd Abbott of Tamboran Resources, which holds the largest acreage in the Beetaloo sub-basin
• Alex Underwood, the managing director of Beetaloo Energy
• Kevin Gallagher, the boss of Santos, which operates the LNG plant at Wickham Point
• Tetsu Murayama, the head of INPEX in Australia
Beetaloo is seen as a game changer not just for the Territory but Australia because it will become the cornerstone of the national energy security strategy.
There’s an expectation that more US onshore oil and gas companies will take an active interest in Beetaloo once the existing players start selling gas.
Santos has recently completed the giant Barossa gas project offshore Northern Australia, with the first of many cargoes of LNG being exported to Japan in January 2026.
The company also has plans to drill and test new appraisal wells in Beetaloo this year.
And there is advance planning for a CCS hub at Bayu-Undan in East Timor to link back to Darwin LNG
INPEX has signed a multi-decade strategic agreement with the NT Government to advance the NT’s economic strategic future that will maximise service and supply opportunities for local business.
The NT Government is advancing the Middle Arm Precinct, with a focus on low emission LNG, advance manufacturing, CCS, mineral processing and hydrogen
It is also undertaking feasibility planning for the new Territory Energy Link, a 670 kilometres corridor from near Elliott to the proposed Middle Arm Precinct in Darwin.
The corridor will support buried services including gas, water, optical fibre, hydrogen gas, and other services. TQ
