QUIET ACHIEVER

Sandra Gabbert is a principal at Gabbert Design, where she leads the interior design division.

With a focus on commercial office design, Sandra has been instrumental in crafting some of Darwin’s most impressive corporate interiors.

She spearheads a dynamic and innovative design team, renowned for her collaborative approach and adeptness at understanding and translating clients’ functional needs and aspirations into exceptional spatial solutions.

Under Sandra’s leadership, Gabbert Design employs advanced 3D software, enabling clients to engage with and visualise their spaces in real time, including material selections.

Her portfolio features a diverse array of high-profile projects, including the striking Anindilyakwa Darwin office fitout on the 15th floor of Charles Darwin Centre and the transformation of the Darwin Convention Centre’s Waterfront rooms into versatile spaces for key corporate functions.

Sandra’s recent project, a new facility for Hot 100 and 104.9 Radio Stations at 30 Daly Street, exemplifies her expertise in balancing complex functional requirements with aesthetic appeal.

Working with the internal design team, this project involved a complete redesign of the building, addressing acoustic challenges posed by its proximity to a main road while ensuring a dynamic and functional environment suitable for a cuttingedge radio station.

Sandra has also recently completed the design for Infrastructure NT, incorporating a refined corporate identity with a subtle Territory-inspired palette.

Her work has been recognised with accolades, including the Polytec Design Awards 24 for Excellence in Design, Residential winner for the Apartment 51 project and she is a member of the Design Institute of Australia.

Sandra’s husband, Wayne Gabbert, is one of Darwin’s leading Building Designers, specialising in major projects, commercial design and development master planning. He developed the master plan for a significant economic development program on Groote Eylandt and is involved in planning the MXGP, the world motocross championship, which NT Major Projects is bringing to Darwin in September 2025.

Gabbert Design, founded 28 years ago, has become an integral part of the Territory’s architectural landscape.

Sandra is engaged in several new corporate office designs and a trendy new bar, continuing to push the boundaries of innovative interior design.
