POWERING THE FUTURE

As we navigate the complexities of the global energy transition, the Northern Territory finds itself at a pivotal crossroads.

In May, Energy Club NT hosted a vital discussion centred on one of our most significant regional opportunities: the path to a low-emissions future in the Beetaloo Basin.

The conversation made it clear that the Beetaloo is not merely a resource development project – it is a strategic national asset. As the world shifts toward cleaner energy profiles, the Territory has a unique opportunity to demonstrate how conventional gas production can, and must, coexist with stringent net-zero commitments.

A highlight of our recent event was the focus on the Shenandoah South pilot project. This joint venture between Tamboran Resources and Daly Waters Energy, coupled with growing confidence through INPEX’s recent farm-in agreement, represents a landmark moment for the region. What makes this development truly transformative, however, is the calibre of global expertise now on the ground here in the Territory.

We were pleased to spotlight how partners such as Helmerich & Payne, Liberty Energy, and Baker Hughes are leading the way in operational excellence. These organisations are bringing world-leading technology to our doorstep. Helmerich & Payne’s super-spec FlexRig drilling technology, Liberty Energy’s advanced completion capabilities, and Baker Hughes’ innovative oilfield services are not only optimising operations but are directly contributing to reducing environmental footprint and improving overall efficiency.

During our panel discussion, representatives from these firms provided invaluable insight into how service providers are working in concert to develop the Beetaloo responsibly. By prioritising advanced engineering, these partners are helping us prepare for a low-emissions energy future, proving that “responsible development” is more than a policy target, it is an engineering reality.

At Energy Club NT, we believe that industry advancement and environmental stewardship are not mutually exclusive. Our members understand that the “social licence to operate” is earned through transparency and technological investment. Whether through the implementation of net-zero obligations or by utilising high-spec equipment that minimises surface impact, the industry is showing a genuine appetite for transformation.

The momentum generated at our May dinner is a reminder of the collaborative spirit that defines the Northern Territory. When we bring together the brightest minds in energy and global service delivery, we aren’t just discussing gas, we are building the infrastructure for a sustainable, prosperous future.

The Beetaloo remains central to the Territory’s economic growth, and I am proud to see our members leading the charge in ensuring this future is secure, innovative, and uniquely Territorian. TQ
