THE SECRETT OF SUCCESS

Darwin-born Robyn Secrett is one of the advisors dedicated to giving Northern Territory business a boost.

Her crucial job as a frontline business support advisor has been refocussed by the NT Government to bring together Small Business Champions, Workforce Development Officers and Industry Development Officers under a new unified title — Territory Business Advisors.

The Territory Business Advisors are trusted partners for local businesses.

They provide practical, tailored advice that helps businesses start, grow, adapt and succeed.

The refocus makes it easier for businesses to understand and access the support available and reflects the way the roles have evolved to deliver integrated, end-to-end support to businesses of all sizes and sectors across the Territory.

Territory Business Advisors are in all regions and work with all sizes of businesses, incorporated associations, not-for-profit organisations, registered training organisations and other stakeholders.

Robyn has been in the role for nearly 10 years.

“I love that my work allows me to build one-on-one relationships with my clients,” she says

“Taking the time to really get to know them means I learn about them, their business and any challenges.

“I’m able to work with them to identify and connect them with the right support that will not only address immediate needs but also create opportunities for long-term growth.

“My clients know that they can call me and if I don’t know the answer to their questions, I’ll soon find someone who does.

“I am their trusted business advisor.”

Robyn has helped many businesses, including The Bookshop in Darwin’s Smith Street Mall.

She provided owner Anna Savvas some tools for her to enhance the promotion of her services to governments, schools and corporations, with an emphasis on her ability to provide specialist publications.

“A lot of people buy their books online or read on a device, but buying locally means you’re supporting a Territory business,” Robyn says.

“And there’s nothing better than holding a real book and reading to your kids at bedtime.”

Robyn also gave important advice to Prabin Maharjan, who owns Dukes Cafe and a social enterprise, Brew Dreams Coffee, which runs barista training courses.

“ I provided information on available grants to achieve his business goals and I referred Prabin to a consultant so he could get expert advice on operating his social enterprise.”

Prabin says: “Robyn is amazing. A lovely lady who gets things done”.
