TERRITORIANS CRUCIAL TO INPEX SUCCESS

Being a part of the Territory’s economic and social fabric is a great privilege – something I take great pride in, as INPEX General Manager Northern Territory. In our journey to produce ever

In our journey to produce ever cleaner, diversified and more secure energy, 2024 was another significant year for INPEX Australia.

And with each LNG cargo supporting regional energy security, together with the Ichthys Joint Venture, we are helping create positive outcomes for the Darwin community, through jobs, training and social and economic benefits.

INPEX is a proud member of the Territory business community. We are enormously grateful for the support we receive from you.

Our work isn’t doable without local businesses, and together with Dave Dann, INPEX General Manager Onshore Operations, I would like to extend a huge thank you to our Darwin-based contractors and businesses for their support.

More broadly, our business continues to thrive thanks to the valuable collaboration we enjoy across all levels of government and with Traditional Owners, community groups, industry and peak bodies as well as our own workforce.

I would also like to thank our workforce’s efforts – INPEX and contractors – for their community focus, where some have shared their journeys to inspire and mentor Darwin youth, as well as volunteer for a range of programs.

Reflecting on our community focus, in an exciting new partnership with the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, we’re pleased to be boosting science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education for students and young people across the Top End.

The STEAM education program helps Territory kids realise the opportunities available to them in some of the most interesting and in-demand industries around the world.

We have continued our support of Darwin Festival, which celebrated its biggest year to date in 2024 with sold-out shows and record attendance at Festival Park. A huge achievement for the Darwin Festival team and we look forward to seeing the continued growth of the festival this year.

We are also pleased to be partnering with Australian Red Cross to support the Connected Women program which helps migrant and Indigenous women to thrive by making connections and learning new skills.

INPEX is also working hard to help reshape the Australian energy landscape by decarbonising its upstream operations and investing in renewable energy generation.

We are aiming to introduce carbon capture and storage (CCS) to Ichthys LNG around the end of this decade – and our first priority is to inject

the CO₂ contained in the Ichthys gas reservoir.

Together with TotalEnergies and Woodside Energy, we are making progress on the INPEX-operated Bonaparte CCS Assessment Project approximately 260 kilometres offshore of Darwin.

We have safely completed a 3-D seismic program and successfully drilled our first CCS appraisal well, and we are now nearing completion of our second well. This activity is supported from Darwin.

Early appraisal data from these wells looks very promising and the Bonaparte CCS project has the potential to become one of the largest CCS developments in the world.

This means, we could help reduce Australian carbon emissions – and by importing CO₂, also help Australia’s regional allies decarbonise their economies, including Japan, Taiwan and Korea.

Our joint venture with Potentia Energy (formerly Enel Green Power Australia) also represents an inspiring opportunity to progress sustainable energy development in Australia.

Our target is to install 2 to 4 gigawatts of renewable energy generation capacity to the nation’s electricity grids by 2030, leveraging Australia’s abundant solar and wind resources.

While LNG will remain INPEX Australia’s core business, we see great growth potential for our new energy business activities with Australia’s ambitious goal of increasing the ratio of renewable energy generation to 82 per cent by 2030.

INPEX welcomes Darwin community feedback, as effective engagement supports trusted and strong relationships. We actively engage with key stakeholders across government, industry, and business communities. Please feel free to reach out to us with any feedback.

Thank you for enabling our success as we work towards delivering energy for a brighter future.
