Darwin Innovation Hub

SPOTLIGHT – EMMA NESBITT

Emma started at the Darwin Innovation Hub in October as the Territory’s first full-time locally based Expert in Residence.

“The team at the DIH has been carefully handpicked with a diversified industry skill set and ability to service the growing needs of our clients. We work together to ensure we are best placed to meet the needs of our start-up ecosystem and the wider NT business community.

We are a rally point for industry, business and venture capital investment in the Territory.”  Shortly after arriving in Darwin from Southern Western Australia, Emma Nesbitt met with Darwin Innovation Hub CEO Harley Paroulakis to discuss his vision and opportunities for growth in the North. Her professionalism and experience stood out resulting in Emma receiving a job offer twenty minutes into the meeting.

“I am not one to sit idle, and I wanted to make immediate connections with those who I could see hold the same values.” “I have lived in multiple regional centres across Australia, and they all have two things in common: the first is resilience, and in light of more recent events this is ever more prevalent. The second, is the people – the advocates, the real leaders. Leadership is the key to successful economic development.”

“We have a fantastic team at the DIH that understands the true nature of innovation and leadership. It isn’t just whiteboarding and coming up with ideas for change, it is about taking steps towards commercial outcomes and turning ideation into reality.”

Emma has worked extensively across regional Australia with a background in business intelligence and process management. She has established national collaborations, working with shires and industry bodies to develop project framework prioritisation tools and has facilitated private investment into projects across the agriculture, renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. “I feel very blessed to have been given this role.

It is exciting not only because of the innovative and fast paced nature of the business itself — but also because of the entrepreneurial ecosystem that is created within the hub, the exciting start-ups and networks all around us.”

“Our vision at the Darwin Innovation Hub is to be the Northern Territory’s leading incubator, hosting and enabling our start-ups, and supporting the commercialisation of 2-way innovation and investment between the Northern Territory and international markets.

I look forward to contributing to this goal” To learn more about Darwin Innovation Hub’s upcoming projects and news, visit darwininnovationhub.com.au TQ
