SHAPING BRIGHTER FUTURES

Walk into the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory Discovery Centre and you will witness STEAM education firsthand – science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, delivered in the unique Northern Territory way: hands-on, place-based, culturally grounded and designed to spark curiosity.

Behind this impact is a strategic partnership between MAGNT and the INPEX-led Ichthys Joint Venture, providing long-term support for MAGNT’s STEAM education program, helping deliver dynamic learning experiences to thousands of Territory students every year.

For INPEX and the Ichthys-led joint venture, supporting STEAM education is an investment in the Territory’s future workforce.

As the Territory grows its capacity in innovation, engineering, renewables and digital technologies, the demand for critical thinkers and creative problem-solvers grows with it.

MAGNT’s Lead Educator, STEAM Education, Caitlin Conway says: “We want young people in the Territory to see science and problem solving as exciting and accessible.”

Field trips and workshops focus on connecting to country by immersing participants in local parks and reserves, encouraging learning through direct experience of place, landscape and cultural context.

Through guided exploration and reflection, the visits deepen understanding of the natural environment, its stories and its cultural significance.

Field trips have included visits to Casuarina Coastal Park, taking in Buffalo Creek and the Dripstone Cliffs, along with Holmes Jungle Nature Park, East Point Reserve, Charles Darwin National Park, the George Brown Botanic Gardens and Bundilla Beach.

Each of these iconic locations offer unique opportunities to engage with country, observe ecological diversity, and strengthen respect for the land and its caretakers.

The Territory’s future industries need thinkers, makers, engineers, designers and creators.

Through the INPEX-led Ichthys Joint Venture and MAGNT collaboration, building those foundations early is helping spark curiosity today that can grow into capability tomorrow.
