REAL ESTATE’S MAJOR ROLE
I’m delighted to have been appointed chief executive officer of the Real Estate Institute of the Northern Territory and look forward to working with the board and members in 2025.
The real estate sector plays an important part in the Territory’s economy.
While the local market in each region may differ at times, the driving and influencing factors are similar, if not the same – interest rates, cost-of-living pressures and consumer sentiment are common topics of conversation.
In the latter few months of 2024, the mood took a positive turn in the Top End with many members reporting that interstate investors are again active in the Darwin market, the potential high rental returns being a key driver of investor activity,
REINT celebrated 50 years in 2024 and this was acknowledged at the annual Awards for Excellence in November.
As the peak body for the real estate industry in the Northern Territory, REINT provides training, personal development and a voice for the industry.
The board has set the vision to achieve a viable, sustainable and respected real estate sector in the Territory.
The local training programs will be a key driver in achieving this vision, with our desire to build a network of Territory trained industry professionals.
In 2024, REINT successfully delivered a Certificate III program for school students with 19 graduating and taking their first steps towards a career in the industry.
We are pleased this program will continue in 2025 with a further 20 students from across the Top End taking part. We hope to extend this type of program to Alice Springs and Katherine.
The REINT team are focused on the future and have recently brought together a group of young professionals to build their networks and look for opportunities for professional development.
It is these types of initiatives that attracted me to the role of CEO, as I am passionate about supporting people to reach their potential in their chosen profession.
There are many roles and skills associated with the real estate industry, and I look forward to working with the team to support the professional development of our members.
Our stakeholders, sponsors and partners also play a large part in the success of REINT and I look forward to meeting everyone and building strong and effective relationships with them all.
The team are working on the calendar of events for 2025, so please look out for opportunities to take part. Golf days, bowls, networking and guest speakers are all being planned for 2025.
The Northern Territory has a bright future and the real estate industry will play a key role and I am looking forward to delivering on our commitment to support our members and the industry.
