OUR WORLD-CLASS TERRITORY PRODUCE
The Northern Territory’s flagship products include cattle, mangoes, melons and seafood.


The NT cattle industry is worth $1.2 billion.
Total cattle numbers range between 1.8 and 2.4 million head, with a turnoff of more than 600,000 each year.
Live cattle are exported to five countries with more than 90 percent going to Indonesia.
The Territory is Australia’s largest producer of mangoes at more than 50 percent of national production.
The mango industry contributes $120 million to the NT economy every year and employs more than 3500 workers during harvest season.
In 2024, more than four million trays of NT mangos were produced.
Export markets include New Zealand, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Singapore and the United States.
Melons are the second largest horticultural product in the Territory, producing 23 percent of the national supply.
Twelve commercial wild-harvest fisheries supply premium seafood, including mud crab, barramundi, trepang and Spanish mackerel.
The seafood industry, including aquaculture and recreational, commercial and tourism fishing, directly contributes more than $300 million to the Territory economy
Darwin Aquaculture Centre is at the forefront of tropical aquaculture research and development, focusing on high-value local species.
