ICN NT: CONNECTING BUSINESS, DRIVING ECONOMIC GROWTH

Delivering real outcomes
ICN NT is making a real difference in the Northern Territory, ensuring that investment from major projects translates into real opportunities for capable local suppliers.
In the 2024–25 financial year alone, ICN NT facilitated more than $260 million in awarded work packages for Territory businesses.
For nearly 40 years, ICN NT has been the trusted connector between local industry and major project opportunities.
“ICN NT exists to ensure the depth and breadth of Territory capability isn’t overlooked,” Chief Executive Officer Daniel McCormick says. “With the Territory entering a defining period of growth and transformation, the role of ICN NT has never been more important.”
Over the past year, ICN NT has played a pivotal role in connecting suppliers to major energy and Defence projects. This includes Santos’ Barossa Offshore development, ENI’s Bonaparte Gulf operations, and Tamboran Resources’ Beetaloo Basin program creating opportunities for Territory companies in FPSO services, subsea infrastructure, camp services and vehicle hire.
In Defence, ICN NT has supported local suppliers to win work on Laing O’Rourke’s RAAF Darwin Mid–Term Refresh Program, DCOH’s Robertson Barracks Base Improvement Project, and SLSCo’s RAAF Darwin P923 Parking Apron Project for the US Department of Defence.
“Project owners regularly come to us to identify the right suppliers for their needs,” McCormick says. “By drawing on our data–backed supplier intelligence, we help proponents achieve more competitive bids, reduce risk in their supply chains, and strengthen their social licence through genuine local participation.”
Mapping capability for the future
ICN NT also works with government to map and forecast supply chain demand, identifying both strengths and gaps in local capability. Recent projects for the Northern Territory Government include the Offshore Gas Expenditure Report, the NT Hydrogen Supply Chain Assessment, and the Defence Construction Capability Report.
“This mapping gives industry and government a clear picture of what the Territory can deliver, and where investment is needed,” McCormick says.
Support for business and industry
For project owners, ICN NT provides early engagement strategies, customised reporting and supplier intelligence to de–risk procurement and maximise local content outcomes.
For Territory businesses, ICN NT offers practical growth pathways through the ICN Gateway platform, as well as services such as capability profiling, market exposure and tender readiness.
“Territory businesses who want to be part of this growth trajectory can come to us for support to get tender–ready, profile their capabilities and connect with major projects,” McCormick says.
Looking ahead
The ICN NT Board has recently finalised the organisation’s 2025-28 Strategic Plan, setting out its evolution from a trusted service provider to a proactive economic partner. The plan focuses on partnerships, data and insights, talent, culture, service innovation and strategic marketing, aligning with the NT Government’s agenda to rebuild the economy through energy, mining, oil and gas, and Defence.
If you are a Territory business wanting to learn more about upcoming project opportunities – or a project owner seeking support with market engagement and supplier scoping – reach out to ICN NT to explore how we can assist.
“ICN NT is proud to be part of what’s shaping up to be a significant opportunity to secure long–term prosperity for the Territory,” McCormick says. “We’ll do this by connecting businesses to projects – creating industry growth and an economic impact that benefits Territory communities.”
