HOCKEY HEADS SPEAKERS’ LIST

The former Federal Treasurer and senior diplomat who once described the Territory economy as the “envy of the rest of Australia” will be the keynote speaker at the Investment Summit.

Joe Hockey is a widely recognised authority on commerce and politics around the world.

The quick-witted former Federal Treasurer sat in the Australian Parliament for nearly 20 years.

He held several portfolios, including financial services, health and welfare delivery, employment, workplace relations, small business and tourism.

But Mr Hockey is best remembered as Treasurer.

He was responsible for the Australian economy, which is now in its 29th consecutive year without a recession.

In 2014, he served as chair of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bankers Group, the most senior gathering of the world’s economic leaders.

More recently, Mr Hockey served as Ambassador to the United States of America – Australia’s most senior diplomatic post – under both President Obama and President Trump.

He is renowned for negotiating significant wins with the first Trump Administration on issues as diverse as the enforcement of refugee agreements and exemptions from all tariffs and quotas.

Mr Hockey specialises in providing strategic and tactical advice to businesses in areas ranging from infrastructure and investment to cyber security and politics.

He is a Visiting Fellow at American University and provides advice to the World Bank and member countries around the globe.

When not working, Mr Hockey enjoys playing golf – he has played against US presidents – and follows all sports. TQ
