BIG4 MacDonnell Range

Tourism champion Brendan Heenan has won more tourism awards than any other Territorian.

He puts his extraordinary success over the past 35 years down to working hard to make the most important people happy – his customers.

Brendan and his family own and operate the BIG4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park in Alice Springs.

The park, which is in a beautiful spot below the ranges and only a short drive from the airport and town centre, won the 2019 Brolga NT Tourism Award for the best caravan and holiday park – for the 28th time.

No other tourist attraction in the Territory has come near that record.

“Our customer service is foremost and we try to exceed their expectations,” he says. “Our clean facilities are one of the comments that we receive from our guests.”

Brendan pays tribute to his staff.

“Like any business, our success is due very much to our great staff. We try to recruit for their attitude. They are proud of our awards as this reflects back to them for all their hard work in customer service.”

MacDonnell Range Holiday Park also won the 2019 BIG4 Des and Margaret Watts Supreme Award for Excellence – the only park in the nationwide 172-park BIG4 network to have won it twice.

The triumph was particularly satisfying for Brendan and his family because it is the ultimate recognition of the very best BIG4 parks.

Winners are those who have set the benchmark for holiday parks in Australia.

The Supreme Award for Excellence is a perpetual trophy donated by the Watts family in 2000 to recognise parks that are leading the way in personal service, facilities, accommodation and tourist promotion.

Winners are chosen on public ratings and feedback, BIG4 branding, participation in BIG4 marketing programs, quality of facilities, online sales, BIG4 membership sales and contribution to the BIG4 community.

BIG4 MacDonnell Holiday Park is also on the Star Ratings 2019 Gold List – the only holiday park in the Territory to achieve the honour after consistently scoring over 9 in guest reviews.

The Alice Springs park has made the Gold List every year since it started in 2015.

Star Ratings Gold List showcases the best hotels, motels, serviced apartments, caravan parks, hosted accommodation and self-catering properties in each State.

BIG4 MacDonnell Holiday Park offers a wide range of accommodation, from deluxe villas to budget rooms, plus powered and unpowered sites, including some with ensuite.

The park has heated swimming pools, pedal go-karts, games rooms, gym, bike hire, basketball court, TV room, kids’ playground, jumping pillows and a BMX track.

There is plenty of entertainment, including Andrew Langford playing the didgeridoo, Barry Skipsey’s Red Centre Show, stargazing, movie and games night, wine and cheese night, and fitness classes.

And don’t forget Brendan’s legendary Sunday morning free pancake breakfast. TQ
