GOING WITH THE FLOW
A Northern Territory traffic management company is flourishing after being founded in the most entrepreneurial way.

Businessman Jay Stuart needed traffic management for a project he was carrying out with his company NT Pipe Relining.
Rather than outsource the job, he decided to keep it in-house – and it was so successful that Northern Territory Traffic Control was born.
The business only started in July 2024 but now has 14 staff – six of them Indigenous – and work is flowing in so it’s looking for more.
A company training traffic controllers sends its Indigenous trainees to NT Traffic Control.
The team of controllers range in age from 18 to an Indigenous woman in her late fifties.
“She’s great,” says manager Ben Wright. “Cheerful and good at her job. The young ones love her.”
All staff are qualified and know that the No 1 priority is safety.
“We’ve found a market,” says Mr Wright. “We’re doing well because we provide a very good service. There’s nothing we won’t do for our clients.
“It’s exciting to see the business grow from nothing to something special. There’s a lot of joy in that.”
Northern Territory Traffic Control works on a wide range of projects – from civil plumbing to road building to the cutting back of roadside trees.
It has a steady work package with plumbing contractor JN Mousellis, which does a great deal of work for the Power and Water Corporation.
“That was our first major contract,” says Mr Wright. “We went on from there.”
Northern Territory Traffic Control is committed to ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow around government and council roadworks, construction sites and major events.
“Our team of highly trained professionals and our dedication to excellence make us the preferred choice for control services,” Mr Stuart says.
The company has a strong commitment to supporting local communities and promoting Indigenous employment.
It is engaged in community outreach programs and partnerships with Indigenous organisations.
