GENOFFGRID SHIFTING TO A NEW MODEL
Northern Territory business GenOffGrid is capitalising on its growth with a new Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) model designed to make reliable, renewable energy more accessible across remote Australia.
A recipient of a Northern Territory Government concessional loan, GenOffGrid develops proprietary solar battery microgrid systems that provide an alternative to diesel-powered energy in remote locations and has completed more than 100 remote power systems across Northern Australia.
The company’s model responds to the key challenge; the significant upfront capital cost of installing renewable energy infrastructure.
Under the EaaS model, GenOffGrid will develop and retain ownership of a fleet of microgrid units, providing them to customers through long-term agreements.
Instead of funding the initial capital cost, customers will pay a monthly fee, providing access to reliable energy while reducing reliance on diesel and exposure to rising fuel and transport costs.
The company has identified opportunities across remote Australia, including communities experiencing power outages and challenges accessing reliable fuel supplies.
GenOffGrid Managing Director John Davidson said the model was expected to create a long-term recurring revenue stream for GenOffGrid, while enabling customers to cut diesel use by up to 90%, reduce emissions and fund the transition through fuel savings that offset the cost of renewable energy supplied under the agreement.
“This expansion demonstrates how a Territory business like ours, can develop innovative solutions to regional challenges while creating new opportunities for sustainable commercial growth. We’re proud to be moving in this direction.”
