When we started this movement, we didn’t do it to stay quiet or settle for less. We did it because we knew Aboriginal businesses held the key to creating real, lasting change. Change that puts economic power back where it belongs — into the hands of our people, our families and our communities. 

For too long, Aboriginal people have been seen as clients, charities or problems to manage. But we have always known the truth. We are business owners. We are job creators. We are leaders. And we are building futures on our own terms. 

I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible leadership of our past CEO, Jerome Cubillo. Jerome’s contribution to this movement was nothing short of transformational. Together with Deb Anstess-Vallejo, he helped build the platform we stand on today and shaped the voice of Blak business not only here in the Territory, but across the country. Filling his shoes is impossible, but I am proud to continue the mission we started together — to keep pushing, keep growing and keep leading with the same passion and purpose that he championed. 

I am also incredibly proud of the people behind NTIBN who make this work real. Our team works tirelessly, often in the background and without recognition, showing up every day with commitment and heart. They carry this responsibility not just as a job, but as a responsibility to our people. I thank them for standing strong in the face of challenge and for continuing to deliver results that matter. 

The truth is, we operate in a political and often uncomfortable space. Change is slow. The barriers are real. But despite that, we keep showing up. We keep speaking up. We keep pushing forward. Because our people deserve nothing less. 

We also know that this work cannot be done alone. We need our members to stand with us. We need our allies to step up with us. And we need government and industry to stop watching from the sidelines and start working beside us. 

When we move together — strong, united and unapologetic — we change futures. We build businesses, create jobs, and give our young people the power to choose their own path. That is the future we are building. That is the mission we will continue. 

Stand with us. Join us. Walk beside us. Because together, we rise.
