FINOCCHIAROS STAND BY THE TERRITORY
A leading property development and management company has again demonstrated faith in the Northern Territory by building the second stage of a commercial complex

The $10 million project, delivered by highly-regarded Territory construction firm Sunbuild, created 60 jobs and will be completed this month.
Anytime Fitness will open in the centre soon.
The development offers exceptional exposure and frontage, including:
- High visibility location in the Palmerston CBD
- Large ground-level, high-clearance showrooms
- Nine tenancies with ample parking
- Flexible tenancy configurations ranging from 230 -1707 square metres
- Convenient rear-loading access for trucks and deliveries
“It is a project designed to keep up with Palmerston’s rapid growth,” says Territory Property Group’s Manager of Projects William Finocchiaro. “It’s about building spaces where businesses and communities can thrive.”
Leasing Manager Ben Finocchiaro says: “Palmerston deserves a standout spot that’s easy to get to, right off the highways, suburbs and CBD. It is truly Palmerston Central.
“We’re going to have a whole range on offer – think lighting, outdoor living, home and office essentials tools and camping, all the things people need to suit their hobbies and lifestyles.”
This isn’t the Finocchiaro family’s first foray into shaping Darwin’s commercial landscape. Previous projects include Darwin Central, Winnellie Central, Stuart Park Central and Fannie Bay Shopping Centre, all of which incorporate a mix of national and local retailers, breweries, medical practices and numerous service providers, such as Officeworks, Carlton United Breweries, Territory X-Ray and Top End Medical.

THE NEW PALMERSTON COMMERCIAL CENTRE … ‘IT’S A PROJECT DESIGNED TO KEEP UP WITH PALMERSTON’S RAPID GROWTH’
For the Finocchiaro family, Palmerston Central is not simply a business venture – it is part of a story that began more than 60 years ago.
The family history traces back to Darwin Bakery, which was opened in 1960 by Ross’ father, Marco, who had emigrated from Sicily with little English – but a talent for numbers and an abundance of grit.
“His generation knew what it was like to feel hungry,” says Ross. “They worked incredibly hard to better themselves and their families.”
Darwin Bakery quickly became a community fixture, and by 1968 the family had begun moving into property investment.
Their first project was the site that now houses Fannie Bay Super Pizza. In 1988, the family sold the bakery to focus entirely on investments – one of the earliest was Darwin Central Hotel, which still stands as their flagship.
Marco passed away in 2017, and his wife Gaetana in August this year. For Ross, the loss is still fresh, but the lesson is enduring.
“My father said, ‘Remember what your mother has done for this family.’ And he was right. She was the glue that held us all together and is what my wife Joanne and I have tried to instill in our boys.”
Today, Ross’s three sons, Mark, William and Ben, are all part of Territory Property Group, ensuring that the family business continues into the next generation.
At 68, Ross speaks of retirement – though in his own way.
In recent years, he has turned his energy to rural projects, including Sundance Farm at Batchelor.
What began as a farming venture has grown into hay production, a solar farm, a caravan park and a quickly growing cattle operation managed by Mark.
“I am looking forward to the next generation contributing and investing in the Territory, where opportunity and lifestyle can be meshed together in a unique mix,” Ross says. TQ
