Empowering the Next Generation of Tech Talent

As the pace of technology accelerates, a new local initiative is stepping up to ensure Territorians don’t get left behind. CodeUp NT, an intensive job-readiness program led by True Blue IT Services, is giving aspiring developers hands-on training in high-demand areas like app and web development (Python, React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS), artificial intelligence, and digital marketing.

Designed especially for post-graduation and early-career students, the program helps fill critical skills gaps in the Northern Territory while encouraging talented individuals to stay in Darwin, launch careers, and even start businesses locally.

“Many of our participants come from IT, cybersecurity, or data science backgrounds. But with the tech landscape moving rapidly—think AI tools like Microsoft Copilot—graduates need structured, real-world training to remain competitive,” says Rifat Mahmud, Director of True Blue IT Services. “That’s why we started CodeUp NT.”

Supported by Darwin Innovation Hub (DIH), the initiative has already run two successful cohorts:

  • Total Applicants: Over 210
  • Internship Candidates: 34 selected
  • Training Delivered: Over 960 hours (480 hours per cohort)
  • Outcomes: Successful job interviews, internships, and real-world project completions

One of the graduates, Gilbertofer Tanoto, shared: “CodeUp NT helped me build my portfolio and gave me the confidence to navigate job interviews. I landed a position at CDU because of the skills and experience I gained.”

The program also caught the attention of innovation leaders across the NT. Harley Paroulakis, CEO of Paspalis Corporation, said: “Supporting CodeUp NT aligns with our mission to grow Darwin’s innovation and technology ecosystem. These programs foster the future talent that our local economy needs.”

With strong mentorship from industry professionals and growing institutional support, CodeUp NT is now inviting educational institutions and local partners to collaborate and expand its impact.

Cohort 3 Opens Soon: Applications for the next intake will open in August 2025 for the September–November 2025 cohort. To register your interest or learn more, visit: codeupnt.com.au
