DELIVERING WORLD-CLASS EDUCATION IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY
The Essington School continues to set the benchmark for educational excellence, proudly ranked as the highest-performing secondary school in the Northern Territory for the fourth consecutive year based on NAPLAN results.
This outstanding achievement places Essington not only at the forefront of education in the Territory but also on the national stage as the highest-ranking Northern Territory school in the Top 100 private schools across Australia.
Yet these results represent far more than academic achievement alone — they reflect a school grounded in purpose, balance, and a deeply-connected community.
The Essington School is guided by a clear vision: to deliver a world-class education. This vision is realised through a strong five-year strategic improvement agenda that shapes every aspect of school life — from curriculum design and teaching practice to wellbeing and pastoral care. Academic excellence is pursued alongside a commitment to nurture confident, resilient, and capable young people who are equipped to thrive beyond the classroom.
A Balanced Approach to Academic Excellence and Wellbeing
A defining feature of The Essington School is its balanced approach to education. Students are encouraged to achieve their personal best academically, while being supported socially, emotionally and personally. This deliberate balance between academic rigour and wellbeing ensures that students feel safe, supported and inspired to succeed.
Essington’s dynamic learning environment challenges students to embrace new experiences, develop resilience and build strong character. This balance empowers them not only to excel academically but to do so with confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
Exceptional Teachers, Exceptional Outcomes
Behind every student’s success stands a team of passionate and dedicated educators who go above and beyond to inspire, guide, and support.
At Essington, teachers are more than instructors, they are mentors, role models, and advocates for every learner.
Through engaging lessons, personalised attention and innovative teaching approaches, Essington teachers ignite curiosity and a passion for lifelong learning. They cultivate critical and creative thinking, encourage perseverance through challenge and empower students to explore beyond their perceived limits — equipping them with the skills to thrive in an ever-evolving world.

A Strong Community Partnership
Student success at Essington is strengthened by the school’s vibrant and inclusive community. Academic excellence flourishes where students feel connected, encouraged and valued.
Families play an integral role in this shared success. Parents and caregivers, a child’s first and most influential teachers, are active partners in the educational journey. Essington is privileged to work in partnership with families who are deeply invested in their children’s learning. Their encouragement at home, engagement in school life and collaboration with teachers together form the foundation for lifelong achievement.
Outstanding Student Achievements
Essington’s culture of excellence is reflected in the remarkable achievements of its students throughout 2025.
Year 10 student, Anastasia Hill was awarded an ICAS Medal for Writing, placing her among the nation’s top achievers. Many other students earned Distinctions across ICAS English, Science, and Mathematics, demonstrating exceptional academic breadth.
Literary talent continues to shine, with Year 8 student, Faye Yik recognised as the Young Territory Author of the Year. Students also achieved outstanding results in the Australian Mathematics Competition, Australian Geography Competition and NT Board of Studies Awards.
Excellence extends beyond the classroom into the performing arts. Year 12 student Alvin Lam achieved the prestigious Associate in Music, Australia (AMusA) through the Australian Music Examinations Board – a qualification recognising performance at a professional standard equivalent to first-year university music studies. Reaching this milestone is a testament to both Alvin’s talent and the school’s strong commitment to nurturing individual excellence in the arts.
Developing the Whole Child Beyond the Classroom
Beyond academic success, Essington students exemplify leadership, service and personal growth through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program, with recipients earning gold, silver, and bronze awards for their dedication and community contribution.
These experiences foster resilience, teamwork, and self-discipline – qualities that extend far beyond the school years. Essington’s holistic approach ensures graduates leave not only with outstanding academic results but with integrity, compassion and the confidence to make a meaningful impact in the world.
