DEC INSTALLATIONS

Quality, integrity, diversity, innovation

As a CAL-accredited, Territory-owned company with 34 years of experience, DEC Installations stands out for its unmatched versatility across civil, electrical and building disciplines in Northern Australia.

From high-voltage power and pipework fabrication to roadworks, subdivisions, commercial buildings and structural steel, DEC is trusted across government and private sectors for its depth of capability and reliability.

Proven Performance

DEC’s roads and infrastructure are known for their longevity, standing up to the harshest Territory conditions long after others fail.

“Many roads develop potholes within a year or two – not ours,” says Director Jai Prolongeau. “Our goal is simple: quality work that lasts.

Fellow Director Jack Grahl says: “We’re not trying to be the cheapest – we’re here to deliver the best value long- term.”

Each director exemplifies business success within the Territory.

Multi-discipline capability

DEC handles a wide range of disciplines in-house – a rarity among local contractors.

Services include:

  • High-voltage electrical installations, overhead and underground
  • Subdivision civil works and bulk earthmoving
  • Stormwater, sewer, water main, and drainage infrastructure
  • Roads, carparks and concreting
  • Structural steel and commercial building works
  • Telstra/NBN pit and pipe
  • Data, lighting and switchboards

Over the years, DEC Installations has delivered an impressive range of high- impact projects across the Northern Territory, showcasing the company’s ability to operate across sectors and regions.

Key government and health sector works include the Royal Darwin Hospital entrance upgrades, slope stabilisation at Government House, and critical high-voltage and switchboard installations at HMAS Coonawarra and Charles Darwin University’s new hospital.

Urban infrastructure projects, such as the Smith Street Mall, McMinn Street roadworks, signalised pedestrian crossings at Northlakes and Temple Terrace, and lighting upgrades at the Casuarina bus interchange, reflect DEC’s capacity for detail-oriented civil delivery in live environments.

The company has completed a number of major residential subdivisions at Johnston, Wishart, Marlows, the Grange and Berrimah Business Park, providing full-service electrical and civil infrastructure.

DEC’s long-standing partnership with Power and Water Corporation includes the turn-key construction of the Woolner and Francis Bay 12kV high- voltage electrical substations, while its footprint in remote and regional work includes the Maningrida football oval, Minjilang basketball court, a generator upgrade at Nguiu Hospital, and recent delivery of full infrastructure for 39 cabins at Discovery Parks in Katherine.

Territory values, Territory people

Both directors are proud Territorians who came up through the business.

Jack began as an apprentice electrician with DEC before becoming director. Jai started as a labourer and worked his way up to leading hand, construction supervisor, project manager and now director. Between them, they bring deep local knowledge and decades of project experience.

“We back our team, and we promote from within. Most of our staff are long- term locals – some have been with us over 20 years,” says Jai.

“We’re more like a family than a business,” says Jai. “People enjoy working with us. We’ve got a great workforce.”

The company lives by four key values: quality, integrity, diversity, and innovation.

Committed to ccommunity

DEC’s team are all NT-based, and the company actively gives back to the Territory community. This includes sponsorships, direct donations, and in-kind support such as equipment and logistics for local causes.

Examples include:

  • Darwin Lutheran community – 20+ years of free plant and maintenance support
  • Dragon boat racing – supporting staff involved in local teams
  • Speedway – individual sponsorships for local drivers
  • Ice Hockey NT – under-14 Pirates team sponsorship
  • Lions Club and Children’s Charities – regular donations
  • Berry Springs fire brigade – community support and assistance

Indigenous engagement

DEC is recognised for its leadership in Indigenous engagement. The company actively partners with Aboriginal contractors, supports Indigenous employment pathways, and invests in inclusive training across its projects.

“We use local people wherever possible. Interstate workers are a last resort – only if that skill isn’t available in the Territory,” says Jack. TQ
