BUILDING FUTURES ON COUNTRY

At the Ichthys LNG onshore facility in Darwin, partnership is more than a principle – it is a powerful driver of opportunity.

Through their long-standing collaboration with Larrakia Development Corporation (LDC), INPEX is supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander trainees and employees to build meaningful careers while contributing to one of Australia’s most significant energy projects.

This commitment to people and partnership is celebrated at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander networking events held each quarter at Ichthys LNG. Bringing together almost 100 INPEX and contractor personnel, the events create a culturally safe environment in which to connect, and highlight the shared ambition to create a stronger, more inclusive workforce.

Since the first event held in November 2024, the quarterly networking event continues to grow, improving connection, visibility, and opportunity for INPEX’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce.

At the heart of the INPEX–LDC partnership are the individuals whose lives are being shaped through opportunity, training and support. For many LDC employees, their journey at Ichthys LNG represents more than a job; it is the foundation of a long-term career.

Andrew Ahkit has been with LDC onsite for over four years, and his experience reflects a pathway defined by growth and determination. Starting in the scaffold yard, Andrew seized the opportunity to transition into the Production Support Team, expanding both his skillset and his confidence at Ichthys LNG.

“Through hard work I have created a career for myself which I am very proud of,” says Andrew.

In his role, Andrew says “no two days are the same.” From maintaining critical safety equipment, high-pressure cleaning, operating forklifts and heavy rigid trucks, to directly supporting plant operators, his work sits at the core of site operations.

“Most importantly, we are ready to respond and help out where required,” Andrew says, highlighting the adaptability and teamwork that underpin success at Ichthys LNG.

LDC plays a critical role in supporting Larrakia and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are active participants in economic development on Larrakia Country. Through partnerships with companies like INPEX, LDC facilitates employment, training, and mentorship that enable individuals to thrive and grow their careers in complex industrial environments.

As INPEX continues to strengthen its reconciliation efforts, its partnership with LDC remains central to delivering lasting impacts in the Northern Territory. In creating local jobs, INPEX and LDC are building careers, nurturing talent, and also investing in communities.

At Ichthys LNG, success is enabled by the people who are part of our story, individuals who are growing skills, supporting families and shaping a stronger future on Country.

Through collaboration, respect and shared purpose, LDC and INPEX are demonstrating what meaningful partnership looks like in action.TQ
