BUILDING FUTURE OF NT AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE
The Northern Territory’s agricultural landscape has been significantly enhanced with the recent completion of the $16 million Berrimah Farm Science Services Laboratory.
This state-of the-art facility is the cornerstone of the NT Government’s ambitious Berrimah Farm Science Precinct redevelopment project, a $50 million investment designed to secure the future of the region’s $1.3 billion agribusiness industry.
The Combined Science Services Building connects the existing Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory and Berrimah Veterinary Laboratory to bring the Berrimah Farm staff together into one integrated precinct. With a strong track record in c omplex projects, Jaytex Construction was pivotal in bringing this science precinct to life.
The project included integration of a medical gas system, solar hot water, complex HVAC system with hospital-grade HEPA filters and pressurisation of rooms and areas to support biosecurity management, Section J energy compliance, and new laboratory equipment. The fully-integrated Building Management System and achievement of Federal Government Biosecurity Protection and Physical Containment Level 1 and 2 certifications, further underscored the technical complexities navigated throughout the project.
The 2600 square metres facility saw more than 230 workers on site during the construction phase to ensure the project was delivered on time and on budget.
Project Manager Jess Gibson said the project had been an exciting experience to be a part of with its intricate nature demanding meticulous attention to detail, particularly in ensuring the laboratory’s sterility and precision.
“The complexities and challenges of this project have provided a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate Jaytex’s tailored solutions approach,” she says.
“I’ve enjoyed being able to see the long list of technical requirements of this build come together to create not only an aesthetically pleasing building but a modern purpose-built facility.”
Jaytex’s strong focus on building lasting relationships and maintaining a high standard of workmanship has been a driving force behind the company’s growth. Build Together is one of its core values and the company has adeptly managed to deliver a high-quality facility while nurturing strong ties with local suppliers to further contribute to the growth of the Territory’s construction industry.
The project not only highlights Jaytex’s capabilities but also underscores the strategic importance of this laboratory in safeguarding and advancing the Territory’s agricultural science capacity.
The Berrimah Farm Science Services Laboratory is more than just a building – it is the most advanced facility of its kind in Northern Australia.
Designed to diagnose plant and animal diseases and identify new pests that could threaten the agricultural sector, this level three science laboratory is the only one in the region with such comprehensive capabilities.
The completion of the Berrimah Farm Science Services Laboratory is a testament to Jaytex’s commitment to excellence and their ability to deliver on complex projects.
Jaytex’s successful delivery of this project not only cements their reputation as a leader in the construction industry but also contributes to a brighter, more secure future for agriculture in the Northern Territory.
