BRIDGING THE GAP

This policy mandates that project proponents develop and implement a Territory benefit plan, outlining their commitments to local workforce development, supplier engagement, and community investment.
It emphasises transparency and accountability, requiring regular public reporting and stakeholder communication. By ensuring collaboration between project proponents, the NT Government and local organisations, the policy aims to align business interests with community needs, promoting sustainable economic growth and social outcomes.
By encouraging private sector projects to invest in local capabilities and infrastructure, the Territory Benefit Policy aims to create long-term benefits for the NT community, enhancing economic and social wellbeing.
In supporting proponents operating in the energy sector to enhance engagement and build connections within the NT energy supply chain, the Energy Club NT hosts an annual Meet the Buyers event, an initiative designed to provide a platform for local businesses to showcase their capabilities directly to industry buyers.
Traditionally, the event is held in a speed networking format hosting close to 500 face-to-face meetings in one location across two hours.
This year, we ran a hybrid format to the event where participants boarded buses to visit various local suppliers’ facilities. This unique format allowed buyers to gain first-hand insight into the capabilities and innovations within the NT supply chain that supports the energy sector. The day was structured to maximise interaction and networking opportunities, with a lunch break in Palmerston featuring a keynote address from the major event sponsor, INPEX.
The Meet the Buyer event was more than just a networking opportunity; it was a strategic initiative to bridge the gap between local suppliers and industry proponents. By facilitating direct interactions, the event helped local businesses understand the specific needs of buyers and tailor their offerings accordingly. This approach not only aims to boost local economic activity but also strengthens the overall supply chain within the NT energy sector.
Participants were encouraged to present their capabilities professionally, as this event could mark the beginning of significant long-term investments in their businesses. Working alongside the Northern Territory Government’s Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations and the Industry Capability Network NT, Energy Club NT emphasised the importance of showcasing professionalism and readiness to meet industry standards, which could lead to fruitful partnerships and business growth.
The Territory Benefit Policy and events such as Meet the Buyer are crucial components of the NT Government’s broader strategy to support sustainable growth. By ensuring that private sector projects contribute positively to the local economy and community, the NT Government fosters an environment where businesses can thrive while delivering tangible benefits to the region.
