BOKA TAKES OFF
The word “boka” is important to Darwin born-and-bred businessman Rhys Griffiths.

It means “clean” in his mob’s Wadjigan language. And that’s what he intended when he quit his secure, well-paid job as a firefighter and set up his own company, Boka Electrical.
“I was making a clean start,” he says.
Darwin-based Boka is thriving, even though it was only founded 18 months ago.
“We’re very busy,” says Rhys, who took his electrical apprenticeship after leaving school but followed what he calls “every boy’s dream” and became a firefighter for eight years.
Boka, a 100 percent Indigenous-owned business certified by the NT Indigenous Business Network and Supply Nation, mainly carries out commercial contracts, particularly new and refurbished buildings.
Rhys employs Territorian Darryl Orrock, who trained him as an apprentice.
“Darryl taught me to work to the highest standards and that’s what I’m doing, with him as my leading hand.
“We get nearly all our work through word-of-mouth recommendations. We do a good job and people are recognising that.
“Our mission is to deliver exceptional electrical services with the utmost dedication to quality, cultural sensitivity and client satisfaction.
“With our wealth of experience and expertise, we strive to complete work that not only meets the highest standards of craftsmanship but also work that we are proud to put our name to.
“We are committed to building strong relationships with our clients, understanding their unique needs, and exceeding their expectations through our unwavering commitment to excellence.”
