BLAZING A TRAIL

A female mechanical trade apprentice paving the way for others to follow her path, a trainee passionate about delivering life-saving training to her community and a business celebrating its 92nd anniversary were three exceptional winners at this year’s Northern Territory Training Awards.

Asinate Bradbury was named the Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year after leaving a career in finance to learn a trade.

She has completed her Certificate III in Engineering and started a Certificate III in Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology.

She is also a strong advocate for the Territory’s vocational education and training sector.

“I changed careers to pursue a much more rewarding job in mechanical trades,” she says.

“I am passionate about my work and love inspiring others to take a similar path to my own in vocational education and training.”

Storm Cloud was named Trainee of the Year.

Her dedication to become an accredited first aid trainer and assessor has seen her expand her skill set and connect with her community.

“I started my traineeship to challenge myself and develop skills, not only in training but also in lifesaving techniques,” she says.

“My training has boosted my self-confidence and provided opportunities to make meaningful connections with the community.”

Hasting Deering, which is celebrating its 92nd anniversary, was named Large Employer of the Year.

It took on five first-year diesel fitter apprentices this year, bringing the total number of apprentices employed to 12 in Darwin and four in Alice Springs.

The NT Training Awards highlight the incredible talent, depth and diversity in the Territory’s vocational education and training sector.

This year’s finalists represent the diversity of talent in the Territory spanning industries such as engineering, construction, electrical, air conditioning and refrigeration, health, business, aquaculture, maritime, vet nursing, early childhood education and beauty services.

The awards, now in their 69th year, foster collaborations between businesses and training providers through innovative programs that strengthen the Territory’s skilled base.

NT winners in eligible categories go to the Australian Training Awards in Canberra on 6 December.
