AIRPOWER: PROUD TO BE A LOCAL

Airpower stands out in the Northern Territory business scene in many ways.

The company is Territory-based and family-owned – and has been servicing the mining, construction, agriculture and transport industries throughout the NT for more than 50 years.

And it’s a third-generation business, which is unusual in a fairly transient community such as the Territory.

Airpower, which services the whole of the NT and northern Western Australia, had a slightly unusual birth.

Peter Rau and his friend Bernd Ostermeyer launched Tristar Transport Engineers in Darwin in 1973.

Airpower was the spare parts arm of the business, but later evolved into its own company.

The managing director is Grant Rau, but his only son Jack and daughter Taylor now run the business day to day.

Taylor is in charge of administration and human resources.

Jack is the general manager.

“I do the inside of the business and Jack does the outside,” Taylor says.

Airpower, which has 17 staff and has trained many over the years, is obviously doing something right because it thrives on word-of-mouth recommendations and repeat customers.

“We’ve got customers who have bought 20 or even 30 machines off us,” says Jack.

The company has created a rewarding, professional work culture and is always looking for good staff.

“We operate in a relaxed yet professional environment, with flexibility and a focus on the big picture,” says Grant.

“We’ve found that the more we invest in making Airpower a great place to work, the happier our employees, the more satisfied our customers, the more our business grows and the more opportunities become available for our people.

“As our business depends on our employees, we aim to keep employees satisfied and challenged in their roles.”

Airpower promotes the Territory as having an unrivalled lifestyle – a great place to live, work and raise kids.

The business is deeply entrenched in the community and sponsors a string of community organisations and events, such as fishing competitions, including a team in Reel Women, and Variety’s children’s Christmas party.

Jack says: “As I always tell people, we’re a Territory company and that means most of our money stays in the Territory.”

Every business claims to go “above and beyond” to keep customers happy.

But very few are capable of doing it quite as well as Airpower.

The business has become the ultimate one-stop shop by supplying market-leading brands; selling new and used equipment; offering top-class servicing; a large parts distributor; and even arranging finance.

And on top of all that, Jack is a pilot who is happy to fly to remote work sites with highly-qualified technicians and any spare parts that his Cessna can carry to handle emergency jobs.

He flew from Darwin to Borroloola one morning, identified a problem, got it fixed and was home by 3pm.

Businesses working remotely can save at least a day – and sometimes several days – by using Airpower’s fly-in service rather than having parts and tradies trucked in.

And when shutdowns caused by broken equipment cost money, that can save them a small fortune.

Airpower supplies market-leading brands, such as Kubota tractors, excavators and power equipment; Hyundai construction equipment; Krone hay equipment; Ammann compaction equipment; and Faresin telehandlers.

It sells new and used equipment.

The company also provides a 24-hour call-out services for emergencies and has achieved certification for the highest international quality standards.

Airpower also has a highly-efficient and professional servicing department, whose technicians specialise in Kubota, Hyundai, Ammann, Faresin and all other makes agriculture and construction equipment.

It provides genuine parts, accessories, maintenance supplies, and expert servicing for Kubota, Hyundai, Ammann, Faresin, and other agricultural and construction equipment.

On top of all these services, the company can help arrange finance through key partnerships.

KAF offers competitive interest rates, monthly, seasonal and structured payment terms and a variety of deposit options for both consumer and business finance.

Airpower has also partnered with MitchMarket Finance to provide equipment financing options, excluding Kubota. TQ
